The Primary School in Singa Chini was built in 1928 and has hardly been renovated since then. The walls, ceilings, floors, panels and doors were in a terrible condition. So we decided to renovate this school from the ground up. The latrines for the children and the school kitchen had to be rebuilt.
The costs for the renovation of four classrooms, construction of the new latrines and the new school kitchen as well as the renovation of the dining room amounted to about 25,000 euros.
Our building supervisor Kalisti started work in September 2017 with his team comprising three men. Some of the children’s parents also helped out by doing the simple tasks. First, four classrooms were renovated from the ground up. Then the latrines for the children were built. At the end of September 2018, work then began on the new school kitchen and the renovation of the large dining room. The work was completed in mid-February 2019 and thus we were able to inaugurate the buildings with a wonderful celebration on 15 February 2019.
The next step will be a complete renovation from the ground up of the remaining 6 classrooms and two offices of the Primary School in Singa Chini. The cost estimate for this work amounts to approximately 12,000 euros. We hope to start this project in early summer 2019.
